As we await the much anticipated launch of the new realXtend viewer, this teaser clip gives us a glimpse into what is to come.  What’s cool about this is that realXtend features the capacity to importing Ogre .mesh format.  With some know-how, just about any industry standard 3D file format can be converted to Ogre .mesh (here’s a Revit model imported into realXtend).  We currently have a region running the realxtend platform, hosted by Visibuild.  If you’re interested in experimenting with it, send us an email – info@archvirtual.com.  They’ve got a new website up, and are looking for help naming the new viewer.

Speaking of platforms with middle-of-the-name capital letters, we’re really looking forward to testing the newest VastPark release in the weeks ahead, and will report on its progress.   They have been working with RMIT, and produced this machinima a few months ago:

Virtual Worlds Down Under – Part 3 of 4 – RMIT Architecture from VastPark on Vimeo.

I also plan to dig deeper into Unity3D – especially in light of the work Digital Urban has showcasing, and demonstrating with it.  I jumped into the demo shown below, and was blown away by how far they’ve come in a relatively short amount of time. Check this out:
