Here are some screenshots of a 3 hour charrette based on the idea of ‘Paper Architecture’ in cyberspace. The sim I’m building on was recently sold, and the build could disappear at any moment, so the exercise is joined by a keen sense of detachment, and a truly liquid and dynamic setting, knowing that it could all disappear at any moment. I kept the exploration to 3 materials – earth, copper and occasional concrete. The idea was to look at the relationship between built form and ‘terraform’ or ‘land’ in the virtual space, and how the two relate. I’ve also been thinking a lot about the role of drama and experience in virtual architecture. Instead of ‘designing buildings,’ I’m looking for ways in which virtual architecture might set up an experience, through visual cues that suggest certain behaviors or evoke certain feelings, or emotions. Obviously I haven’t achieved any of it with these builds – but they’re only a few hours in the work, and I intend to keep polishing and building until it all goes ‘poof’ when the final transfer goes through.
