I think the ideas explained in this video are precisely what make Second Life so incredibly powerful and important. Second Life is like a massive, international coffee house where people from all around the world are prototyping and sharing their half-hunches – which can then combine and create new forms. Its popularity may ebb and flow, and perhaps SL itself is a half-hunch of sorts – but I have to admit that the experiences I cherish most during the past several years of working in virtual worlds each came from the combining of half-hunches, and serendipitous connections with other people. Its the closest we can get to being able to walk around inside of our own imaginations, to explore ideas, and to share our half-hunches with others.
There is something incredibly powerful about this, and I often underestimate just how important and formative this aspect of Second Life has been for me.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. The best is yet to come.
